NAIROBI, Kenya, July 8,2026 – Former ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has officially launched the People's Prosperity Party (PPP) and declared he will contest the presidency in the 2027 General Election, setting the stage for an early political showdown with President William Ruto, who is widely expected to seek a second term.

Speaking during the launch, Owalo unveiled the party's headquarters, Ustawi House, and introduced its slogan, "Ustawi Kwa Wote" (Prosperity for All Kenyans), saying the new outfit is committed to delivering economic transformation and shared prosperity.

"It will not be business as usual; it will be business unusual. I shall offer focused and transformative leadership that is people-centred and in conformity with good governance and the rule of law," Owalo said.

The former ICT CS criticized Kenya's political leadership over the past 63 years, saying millions of Kenyans continue to struggle with poverty despite the country's vast economic potential. He called for what he described as the "Third Liberation"—an economic revolution aimed at empowering ordinary citizens through job creation, enterprise, and inclusive growth.

Owalo expressed confidence that Kenyans would back his bid in 2027.

"I am confident that by 17 August 2027, the people of Kenya will have given me a clear mandate to be declared President under a PPP Government. With that mandate, we shall begin the great work of the Third Liberation—an economic revolution to deliver Ustawi Kwa Wote, prosperity for all Kenyans," he said.

He pledged to fight corruption, protect public resources, strengthen accountability, and build a citizen-centred government focused on improving the lives of farmers, youth, women, traders, artisans, and small-scale entrepreneurs.

The launch of the People's Prosperity Party makes Owalo one of the first prominent politicians to formally declare a presidential bid for the 2027 General Election, injecting fresh momentum into the race for State House.
