Nairobi, Kenya, July 17, 2026 – The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has praised the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for conducting what it described as a free, fair and credible Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election, despite the party's candidate losing to DCP's Sammy Kamau.
UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar addresses the media after the Ol Kalou by-election, praising the IEBC for a credible poll and reaffirming the government's commitment to equitable governance.
Speaking after the poll, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar commended the electoral commission for safeguarding the integrity of the vote.
"The IEBC did a stellar job. You held us all to account and allowed the popular will of the people to prevail," Omar said.
He said the Kenya Kwanza administration would continue serving all Kenyans equally regardless of the election outcome, insisting the government remains committed to fairness, justice and inclusivity.
"We are not competing for power in order to oppress anyone or to push any community to the margins. This government serves Kenyans equally with fairness, justice and equity," he stated.
Omar also took a swipe at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of repeatedly attacking independent institutions whenever they failed to advance his personal interests.
He alleged that Gachagua has consistently sought to undermine state institutions while promoting divisive politics, targeting institutions and communities whenever they did not align with his political interests.
The UDA Secretary General further commended security agencies for maintaining law and order throughout the by-election, saying their professionalism helped ensure a peaceful, credible and orderly electoral process.
