The Vijana na Ruto National Youth Political Movement, led by its chairperson Isaac Ntharagwa, has demanded disciplinary action against Starehe MP Amos Mwago over remarks attributed to him during a political engagement in Nakuru last week.

In a strongly worded press statement issued in Nairobi on Monday, the youth movement accused Mwago of crossing the line between legitimate political criticism and what it described as disrespect towards the office of the President.

The movement said political leaders are free to challenge government policies but must maintain decorum when addressing the Head of State.

“Political criticism is legitimate and protected; personal insults directed at the institution of the Presidency are not,” the statement reads.

Vijana na Ruto has called on National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah to formally take up the matter within Parliament.

The group wants Mwago to be given an opportunity to confirm or deny whether the remarks attributed to him were accurate.

Should the remarks be confirmed, the movement is demanding that Mwago publicly and unreservedly apologise to President William Ruto and the nation before being allowed back onto the floor of the House.

The youth movement said its position is not driven by political rivalry but by the need to protect the dignity of the presidency and uphold standards of parliamentary conduct.

According to the statement, allowing leaders to make what it considers personal attacks against the presidency without consequences risks creating a precedent that could undermine respect for the institution regardless of who occupies State House.

YOUTH URGED TO STAND FIRM

The movement also used the statement to rally young Kenyans behind President Ruto's development agenda, urging them to remain “steadfast, informed and organized.”

It called on young people to hold leaders accountable to the mandates they receive from voters and reject what it termed political opportunism dressed up as principle.

“Leaders who abandon those who stood by them the moment it becomes politically convenient” should be rejected, the movement said.

Vijana na Ruto said its commitment is to a disciplined, accountable and united political movement where loyalty, gratitude and respect for national institutions remain central.

The statement comes amid heightened political activity ahead of Kenya's 2027 General Election, with political leaders and youth movements increasingly positioning themselves around competing visions for the country's political future.

The movement has urged Parliament and relevant party organs to act on the specific demands raised in its statement
